Lewis and Santiago
Cooper Cole gallery in Toronto presents a two-person exhibition from Tau Lewis and Curtis Santiago, titled “Through the people we are looking at ourselves”. Santiago’s interest in storytelling, in particular narratives from African and Caribbean culture, comes alive in his practice, which aims to animate and reinsert these silenced histories into contemporary art and history.
Tau Lewis is a Jamaican-Canadian sculptor whose work combines natural and synthetic materials to create simulations of living organisms. Her material practice is influenced by her surrounding environment, and the conceptual framework of her sculptures investigates black identity politics and African diaspora.
